The Best of 2013: Our favorite projects
A new series from our team
We’re kicking off the new year with a series of posts dedicated to our personal favorites of 2013. More specifically, and thereby excluding Ikea Monkey and Sharknado, our favorite Turnpost projects of the past year. Over the next few weeks, members of our team will discuss a project that stood out to them, highlighting the objective, the creative process and the oh-so-satisfying result. First up? Jamie Massey, Art Director.
“Checkered Past” Build Video
Client: Omaha-based custom car builder Cal Automotive Creations
Objective: The client wanted to promote its first custom build, Checkered Past, under the name Cal Auto Creations to generate buzz about the new company and its capabilities. Turnpost was tasked with telling the car’s story through a build video – how this 1940 Ford was purchased by its second owner in 1957 and passed down from father to son. That son happened to be Ron Cizek, co-owner of Cal Automotive Creations.[vimeo id=”60758559″ mode=”normal” align=”center” autoplay=”no”]
The video gives you a look at the elite 2013 Hot Rod scene and the passion that exists behind the doors of the burgeoning shop.
The outcome: The car was entered into the Detroit Autorama Show as a 50th annual Ridler Awards entry. With the hope of making it into the Pirelli Tier “Great 8,” Checkered Past would go on to win the coveted Ridler Award. Since then, the car has received two Good Guy Awards, has been featured in numerous hot rod magazines, and is making its way around the Autorama Show circuit. The video has received a 2013/2014 Nebraska ADDY Award.
Why it’s my favorite of 2013: It was amazing to watch the progress and level of dedication that goes into this type of project. Plus, we were able to shoot on location at the famed Charley Hutton Paint Studio in Idaho. The entire experience was unforgettable for us and groundbreaking for our client.
